Douglas Fir

Although it is not a true fir, the Douglas Fir is considered by many Northwesterner’s to be the “traditional” Christmas tree. As the fastest growing Christmas tree, it is the mainstay of growers. Found everywhere in the Northwest, it is widely used for reforesting timber land.

Fraser Fir
(Abies fraseri)


Native to the Southern Appalachians, this tree is grown extensively in the eastern United States. The Fraser Fir has a deep green color, strong, short needle sand wonderful spicy aroma. Like the Noble Fir, the Fraser Fir has excellent needle retention.

Grand Fir

The strongest aroma of all the Christmas tree species, the Grand Fir gives your home the smell of Christmas. The Grand Fir is prized for its dark green color, large needles, and graceful gesture of the limbs. It keeps longer than the Douglas Fir. A favorite of growers, it is fast-growing and tolerates both wet and dry areas.

Noble Fir

Native to Oregon and Washington, the Noble Fir is considered the top of the line Christmas tree because of its luxurious foliage and intricate, open branching patterns. It has a deep greenish-blue color, a subtle aroma and excellent needle retention.

Nordmann Fir (Turkish)
(Abies bornmulleriana)


This tree is a sub-species to the Nordmann Fir and is an important species grown for Christmas trees, being favored for its scented foliage, with needles that are not sharp, dark green, and do not drop readily when the tree dries out. It is native to northwestern Turkey and similar to the Noble Fir but slower growing.

Norway Spruce
(Picea abies)


This native to northern Scandinavia has become a valuable naturalized member of our forests and is extensively planted as an ornamental. The Norway Spruce has short, dark green needles and sturdy branches. It has an open branch pattern and a layered look, making it a popular Christmas Tree choice. It has good needle retention and keeps well.

Blue Spruce
(Picea pungens)


It is native to the Rocky Mountains of the United States. Its natural range extends from northern New Mexico to Wyoming, but it has been widely introduced elsewhere and is used as an ornamental tree in many places far beyond its native range. The blue spruce has blue coloured needles and is a coniferous tree.
